Another new game

I'm working on prototype of another cool new game. The theme is lines. If everything goes well it'll be a top down game where you guide a player to the exit (and maybe you pick up some stuff in the way) while enemies with lasers musn't detect you. The main trick will be in enemies lasers which will be all way around.

While this game is still much in development, evey I can't say if it will be fun to play.

Stay tuned and hope for monday release!

New game as a surprise :)

Hey,

The game code porting is going slow, cause I really don't know to read DOS (~10 year old) C++ code. In meanwhile we made a cool little game that features mechanics of Lights Out, but with cool shaped maps and pentomino blocks (older brother of Tetris).

Get it here (shapes.zip):

Also, we're planning to make another cool game.
Stay tuned.

Next project will be kinda different. We're planning on porting an old dos game to windows and then adding better resolution support, better graphics and sounds. Also, this project won't be limited to one week.

Something different

Hey. We were busy with real life for whole week and didn't have any time to work on our game, so the new game will be out next monday (it's still a game in a week, but with 1 week delay :)

But we have a little surprise - I've been working on a cool game with fluid mechanics and it'll be ready for download tommorow. I'm just giving it finishing touches.

Another bug fixed

Hey guys. I found another mistake (made by me) in designing the level 3
in the older version you can't get to the key... the ball doesn't want to go in the space where key is. :)
now i removed one brick and its OK. now these 6 levels we made can be finished.

once again sorry for bugs. it wasn't easy to make something with time we had..

Fixed a bug, next theme announcement

The original release of Sticky had a bug that caused problems with ending level 2.
Bug is now fixed, so just re-download game from previous post.

Next theme - Stupidity

Third game ready!

Well, what to say? We're few hours late (again). Game has some slight movement bugs, but let's hope you'll forgive us that. It turned out pretty good even due tons of problems and lack of creativity. Anyone proposing some good simple 2D physics library?

Due to extra lack of free time, next theme still isn't decided. We'll probably publish next theme tomorrow.

Yes we know we're a little late, but we have nasty days in school so don't take this to hard on us :)
The only thing that needs to be done is some tweaking on levels

But i can say.. I'm proud on this one.
Hope u guys will like it too :)

First game finished

Huh, this was a really tight schedule. We tweaked all stuff in last minutes, but as far as we tested it, the game is actually fun and almost bugless.

Last day

The Last day is slowly ticking off :)
Everything should be done in couple of hours.
Tho, we have an problem with graphics.. my PC just doesn't want to read it right.

At this moment Drvarek is nearly done with the work that needs to be done, so
this day before 02:30AM we need to tweak the stuff and hopefully solve the problem that exist
on my PC.

I didn't try the game yet..but i hope this will be playable :P
After all its our first try so we don't expect too much... well i don't.

Well, just to show off some screenshots from level editor...

As for progress, everything is going nicely - game mechanics are being implemented as I write this, graphics are 80% done, etc... Seems like that it is really possible to make a game in a week.

Day Two

The goal for the 2nd day was for each of us to think of some ideas... so we did.
As we spoke hour or so we came up with an idea that could be fun to play,
so the graphic part is on the way.

I think i should make all the graphics in day or max 2 so that Drvarek can work hes part of job
with not such a big pressure :)

OK. what where the ideas.?
Firstly we had some similar ideas so the choice was not on a big list :)
Well, there were some kind of puzzle styles so we throw that in the garbage.
Some "don't let the leaves fall on the ground","sink the leaves","save some % of the healthy leaves",and some kind of collecting points with them(this ideas wasn't clear to me)...
But the last one i mentioned was the winner for the time.
It was some kind of take the leave from position A to position B...

Then Drvarek started to ask me about how do i imagine the game play for it(he explained what he meant with the idea to me before that) and i didn't think for long.
We talked and talked what is good in that, what's not and suddenly we were off of the idea :D
After some time i came up with a new idea:
Like you were the leaf who felt from the tree in some radioactive suspension and become an Super-Leaf with sticky hands. The goal was to climb back to the place from which you have felt off. Of course on the way up there would be traps weight problem, branches that plug ect ect.

This idea was kinda OK but Drvarek suggest that we replace the leaf with an bug that eats the leaves and become more and more heavier, gaining more chance to fall off the tree or something like that, so the player should be careful where to eat, what to eat ect.

That was some mix of Drvarek's and mines idea so we decide to make it so..

More info coming soon

Start Of Experiment

This experiment is inspired by gamasutra article (http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20051026/gabler_01.shtml) which talks about prototyping games under 7 days.

Most rules will be similar to original article with exceptions that there are only 2 people in team and that first one is assigned for game code, while second is assigned for graphics. This is more real since most programmers aren't good at graphics design and vice versa.

Here are the original rules:
  1. Each game must be made in less than seven days,
  2. Each game must be made by exactly one person,
  3. Each game must be based around a common theme i.e. "gravity", "vegetation", "swarms", etc.
So rule 2. won't count for this experiment.

Tools we'll be using:
  • FreeBASIC + HGE (graphics library) + Fmod (audio library)
  • Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
We tentatively plan to work on experiments until end of year. But we may end up sooner or later.

For the first theme we have chosen leaves (as in foilage).
Stay updated for progress report.
